Go Green Again!

It is Earth day again...already? This year has just flow by.



So have I become more eco-friendly? I would like to say yes, but really it is Richard who heads that department in our family. After are mostly successful garden that we planted WAY too early last year, it has really been a passion of Richard's. So much that this year he bought a composter. Now we are saving food scraps and lawn clipping to make our own wonderful and enriched soil.



Let me tell you that I am glad this is something Richard wanted. This is a stinky venture he has created. Well only when you open the composter, ours is fully enclosed. I do have to deal with our counter top composter though.



This little can has filters in the lid, so it doesn't get all stinky just sitting on the counter, but boy when you open that lid it sure is ripe if it doesn't get emptied every day.



The kids absolutely love this. They help turn the composter and they always want to know if this food or that can go into it. Bradley thinks it is crazy that egg shells and coffee grinds can go in, but steak and candy can't.



As for me, I want to some kind of project in honor of Earth Day. I have chosen a pretty adventurous project. Hopefully I can get it finished in time and that it turns out like I see it. My idea....



But my fall back tribute to Earth Day will be dirt cups desserts. Very easy and safe. Bradley has been asking for them, so why not?

Cake Balls Anyone

For Jeff's Master Recital my mom and I made cake balls. Tons and Tons of cake balls. These wonderful morsels of chocolate covered cakes are popping up everywhere. Bakerella was my inspiration for these. Hers get a lot more elaborate, but for a huge crowd, the easier the better.

Chocolate or White Cake

Chocolate went faster, but we had a lot of compliments on the white.

Oh and there were eclairs from a bakery... but the cake balls went first.

They were such a hit with my kids, they want these for their birthday instead of a whole cake!

The Twisted Headband

My post title has a double meaning... Yes I seriously made this, and I got the idea and instructions from a new blog that I am following. Yep you guessed it, the name of the blog; You seriously made that!?

Cute HUH???

Let me say now that I am not a crocheter. The single link (loop) stitch is all I can do. I don't even know the lingo... I am sure I could probably learn more, I just don't have the patience.

But hey, I got this down. Aren't the colors fun???

I even made a small one for babies. I just need to get elastic to finish it off instead of ribbon. Check out the tutorial and some of her other great crafts.

Hide & Seek or..... Stuck

Bradley and Olivia love to play hide and seek. Bradley is really good at hiding, Olivia not so much. She hasn't mastered the art of holding still and being quiet. Plus you can still say "Olivia, where are you?" and she will say "I am under the bed" (or the covers on the bed sitting up). The innocents of children.

Richard found a very good hiding place for Olivia. After a lot of coaxing and reminding her to be quiet and not say anything, the game began.

Of course the door was closed when Bradley was looking for her. And after several hints and about 30 minutes, he finally found her.

Bradley of course can do anything his little sister can do "but better" so decided to give the hide out a try... He didn't quite fit that well. Actually he got stuck, and needed help to get out. So after a lot of laughing and some picture taking, Bradley finally got free. He has also decided his sister is better at getting in the small spaces...

April Fools!!!!

Welcome Spring... With it comes the warmer weather, plants and flowers starting to grow, and April fools day. Bradley is always trying to come up with the best April fools joke, and so we decided to get a head start on him this year. We got up early and started making a fruit salad for Amanda's work pot luck, and we decided to put the scraps in a couple bowls and tell the kids that they were having fruit salad for breakfast.

It didn't last too long, they were a little disapointed when they saw the banana peels and strawberry stems along with the glob of seeds from the middle of the cantelope. After yelling April fools! We got them their REAL breakfast:

Bradley was pretty determined to get us back later, and he even wanted to get a pie and smash it in Mom's face. So I went to the store and got some stuff for pudding and whipped cream. After dinner, we made pudding and took a paper plate and covered it with whipped cream. I told Bradley that this was going to be the pie that he could throw in Mom's face.

Well Mom must have gotten wind of the conspiracy and after a short talk she convinced him to defect and become a double agent. I got the pie ready and was watching as he started walking over to Mom with it and he suddenly turned and slapped it in my face!

I guess the joke was on me!!!
